ABOUT US

FOR EVERY SPECIAL OCCASION, THERE’S TUCKIN

I’m Memet, proud owner of Tuckin, where Turkish and British cuisines come together in Northampton. From a small village in Turkey to building my dream in the UK, Tuck In reflects my passion, resilience, and love for bringing people together over great food.

I look forward to welcoming you!

I was born in 1972 in a small village called Kurtalan Siirt, in the southeast of Turkey. As a child, my life was all about helping my father on our small farm with fruit, vegetables, goats, and sheep. I started working there when I was just nine years old, a er school, and during summer breaks, I sold our farm products on the street market. This was the authentic village life that shaped me, and I am proud of it.

In May 1984, we opened our own convenience shop, selling the most famous Turkish breakfast and gözleme from our fresh farm products. However, I had bigger dreams, and in 1987, I moved to Istanbul, Turkey's biggest city, to explore new horizons. The first time I saw the sea, it was a revelation to me, and I knew that I wanted more from life. I started working in a traditional restaurant, and soon enough, in October 1987, a friend and I managed to rent a small place to start our own business. We called it "Serpme Köy Kahvaltı Salonu," and this was the beginning of my journey to become a successful entrepreneur.

I had to do my compulsory national service in the army from 1991 to 1993, after which I traveled to Marmaris, one of the most beautiful places in Turkey, where I worked in the famous Dede restaurant for a year. In 1994, I opened my first small restaurant in Marmaris, where I met many great people from all over Britain. It was the start of my journey to the UK.

n 1999, I arrived in the UK, dreaming big and determined to make a name for myself. After working in a British carvery restaurant, I took over a Friday fish and chips shop in Bradshaw Street, which I renamed Alibaba Fish and Chips and ran for three years. I tried my hand at taxi driving from 2004 to 2006, but it didn't fulfill my dreams. In 2006, I opened a small cafe called Jenny's, but it still wasn't what I was hoping for. Then I decided to build my dream, combining my Turkish and British culinary experiences to create the most delicious food.

A er several failed attempts, I refused to give up on my dreams. It was then that I decided to create a restaurant that mixed Turkish and British cuisines with all of my experiences. In 2006, I finally made it happen and changed the name to Tuckin. It was my place of long dreams. I worked hard to create a place where people could come together, share stories, and enjoy a delicious meal.

I am proud to say that Tuckin has become a famous and successful restaurant in Northampton. At Tuckin, we o er a unique dining experience, featuring the flavors and stories of my life's journey. Our menu reflects my passion for farm-fresh produce and the rich heritage of Turkish and British cuisine. Whether you're here for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, we guarantee you a warm welcome and an unforgettable culinary adventure. I am proud of my background and my journey, and I hope to inspire others to pursue their dreams, no matter how big or small. Join me at Tuckin. I look forward to welcoming you to our restaurant.
